By Our Reporter Fresh controversy has erupted in Anambra State following allegations that a man apprehended by local vigilantes over an alleged car theft in Nkpor was released instead of being handed over to the police for investigation and possible prosecution.
According to reports by AIF Media, the suspect was allegedly caught shortly after snatching a vehicle in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. He was reportedly taken into the custody of a local vigilante group after his arrest.
However, new allegations now suggest that the suspect was later released under controversial circumstances without being transferred to the Nigeria Police Force for proper investigation. The claims further allege that individuals with influence within the vigilante group may have played a role in facilitating the suspect’s release. These allegations remain unverified, and no official findings have been made public.
The development has generated widespread concern among residents and social media users, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding the alleged release and demanding transparency from the authorities.
The suspect said to have been released without proper Investigation and prosecution
Reacting to the reports, Eneh Victor called on Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the Commissioner of Police, and the Department of State Services (DSS) in the state to launch a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
“If these allegations are true, everyone involved must be identified and held accountable. The rule of law must prevail, and no suspect should be allowed to evade justice through alleged backdoor arrangements,” Eneh Victor said while urging security agencies to act swiftly.
He further appealed to the relevant authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the alleged release are thoroughly investigated and that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the local vigilante group, the Nigeria Police Force, nor the Department of State Services has issued an official statement confirming or denying the allegations.
The incident has reignited conversations about accountability within community security outfits and the need for stronger collaboration between vigilante groups and statutory law enforcement agencies to ensure criminal suspects are processed through the appropriate legal channels.
This remains a developing story, and updates will be published as more verified information becomes available.
