NSCDC Arrests Three Over Alleged Vandalism of Anambra Government Property

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested three suspects for allegedly vandalising government property and erecting structures on government-owned land in Onitsha South Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects were arrested on Monday by NSCDC operatives working in collaboration with the Agunachemba Security Outfit while allegedly vandalising government property in the area.

The Head of Media and Tactical Operations of the Command, SC Okadigbo Edwin, disclosed this on Tuesday while reviewing the operational successes recorded by the Corps during the week.

According to Okadigbo, the suspects are Mr Oseloka Anyaorah of Onitsha Umuasi, who allegedly claimed to be the Chairman of Ogbo Family, as well as Mr John Nwobodo and Mr Ifeanyi Nwancho, who reportedly claimed to be employees of Anyaorah at the site.

He said the operatives recovered one government signpost, zinc sheets, nails and other building materials from the suspects.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects conspired to damage and remove parts of government infrastructure belonging to Onitsha South,” Okadigbo said.

He added that the recovered items had been secured in the custody of the Corps as investigations continued.

Meanwhile, the NSCDC Anambra State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde, condemned the alleged vandalism, describing the destruction of public property as “economic sabotage against the government and people of Anambra State.”

Maku reiterated the Corps’ commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure across the state.

He directed that the suspects be properly profiled and charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

The Commandant also urged traditional rulers, town union leaders and residents of Anambra State to provide timely information to security agencies to help prevent further vandalism of government facilities.

Okadigbo said the Corps would continue to collaborate with relevant security outfits and stakeholders to safeguard public infrastructure across the state.
