Anambra State marked Governor Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s birthday with another milestone in infrastructure development as four new speed boats were commissioned to enhance transportation, safety, and connectivity across the state’s riverine communities.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Monday, July 28, 2026, at Odotemaka Riverside, Nzam, brought together government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents in what many described as a symbolic celebration of the Governor’s people-centered development agenda.

Leading the event, the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, joined the leadership of Anambra West Local Government Area to unveil the boats, describing the project as another bold step toward creating an integrated, efficient, and accessible transport network across every part of the state.

“This project reflects Governor Soludo’s unwavering commitment to connecting communities and improving the quality of life of Ndi Anambra. Safe, reliable, and modern water transportation remains a top priority for the Ministry of Transport,” Ibuzo said.

According to the Commissioner, the investment in modern marine transportation will not only improve mobility for residents of riverine communities but also stimulate commerce, boost tourism, enhance security, and drive sustainable economic development.

In a major innovation, Hon. Ibuzo also launched the state’s QR Code Boat Identification Initiative, beginning with the four newly commissioned speed boats. The digital identification system is designed to strengthen security, improve accountability, enhance regulation, and ensure efficient management of water transportation across Anambra State.

The Mayor of Anambra West Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Edith Nkeiru Ndive, popularly known as Mmadiche, reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to prioritizing projects that directly improve the welfare of residents.

“Our administration will continue to invest in infrastructure that addresses the unique transportation challenges of our riverine communities. These speed boats represent safety, accessibility, and new opportunities for our people,” she stated.

The colorful event attracted prominent traditional rulers, including His Royal Highness Commander Raymond Omorja, Igwe of Owere; His Royal Majesty Joseph Ajodo, Igwe of Ụkwara; and His Royal Highness Joseph Alokwu, Igwe of Nzam, alongside other dignitaries.
