‘Lead by Example’, Egboka Charges Obi-Kwankwaso Supporters in Anambra

The Anambra State Chairman of the Obidient-Kwankwaso Movement, Dr. Tim Egboka, has charged newly appointed coordinators of the group to lead by example and build a strong grassroots structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Egboka gave the charge on Thursday, September 24, in Awka during the inaugural meeting of newly appointed state, zonal and local government coordinators of the OK Movement.

“When leaders are leading from the front, followers will easily follow. You people should lead by example,” he told the coordinators.

He said the immediate priority of the movement was to establish functional structures across Anambra’s 21 local government areas, wards and polling units.

Egboka urged the coordinators to demonstrate commitment through personal sacrifice, recruitment and active grassroots participation.

“Thank you for coming at short notice. It shows that you people are prepared to serve in your various capacities and capabilities towards making sure that Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election,” he said.

He cautioned the coordinators against indiscriminate recruitment, stressing that the movement needed committed and capable members rather than merely large numbers.

“We urge you to remain steadfast on the task at hand. This is time to work,” Egboka said. “I plead with all of you to make the necessary sacrifice to put up the structures at local governments, wards and polling units.”

The meeting was part of efforts to coordinate various support groups backing Obi and Kwankwaso under the OK Movement structure.

Egboka said groups including the Obidient Movement, Kwankwasiya, Village Boys, COPDEMN and Grassroots Alliance had been consulted as part of the process.

He said the objective was to develop an organised grassroots network that could mobilise voters and support candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

“All the support groups have been brought together to work with the party so that we can collectively win the 2027 general election in the state,” he said.

Uzoezie calls for party membership

The NDC Chairman in Anambra State, Rt. Hon. Ikem Uzoezie, urged members of the OK Movement to formally register with the party at their respective wards.

Uzoezie said support for Obi and Kwankwaso should be accompanied by participation in the party’s grassroots structure.

“You cannot profess that you are supporting Peter Obi and Kwankwaso’s emergence as President and Vice-President without being a member of NDC at the ward level,” he said.

He also urged members interested in serving as polling-unit agents to register immediately, saying party membership was required for such responsibilities.

“Now is the best time to do that as the list of PU agents is being compiled at ward levels,” Uzoezie said.

He said grassroots participation was a responsibility for party leaders and members alike, noting that he attends ward and local government meetings despite serving as state chairman.

Pat Obi urges leaders to put collective interest first

Prof. Pat Obi, a leader of the Associates of Peter Obi, urged the newly appointed OK Movement coordinators to place the collective objective of the movement above personal interests.

He called for unity among the various support groups and urged leaders to pool their human and organisational resources towards building an effective structure across Anambra.

According to him, the selection of coordinators was based on considerations of character and competence.

He challenged the newly appointed leaders to justify the confidence placed in them by working collectively and demonstrating the qualities expected of those entrusted with organisational responsibilities.

Uzoezie warns against selective voting

Uzoezie also urged supporters to mobilise not only for the presidential ticket but also for the NDC’s candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly.

He said the movement’s electoral efforts should extend beyond the presidential contest.

“What we are doing now is not just to win election for Peter Obi in Anambra because he has already won,” Uzoezie said.

“What we are doing is to ensure that Peter Obi wins 98 per cent of the total votes cast.”

He also called for support for NDC legislative candidates, arguing that a presidential victory would require legislators capable of working with the president.

The meeting therefore focused on four major areas: grassroots organisation, recruitment of committed members, party registration and preparation for election-day responsibilities.

For Egboka, however, the starting point remains leadership.

“When leaders are leading from the front, followers will easily follow. You people should lead by example.”
