The Anambra State Government has given owners of abandoned vehicles on roads across the state a one-month ultimatum to remove them or risk having their vehicles impounded and scrapped.

The directive was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Law Mefor, on Tuesday, following decisions reached at the 17th meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), held at the Light House, Awka.

Mefor said the government had directed the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) to issue a one-month notice to owners of abandoned vehicles as part of efforts to eliminate road hazards, improve traffic flow and enhance the safety and aesthetics of roads across the state.

“At the expiration of the notice, all such vehicles will be impounded, removed and scrapped by the government,” Mefor stated.

He urged owners of abandoned vehicles to remove them immediately to avoid forfeiture, warning that the government would enforce the directive upon expiration of the notice.

Upper Iweka Gets Urban Regeneration Boost

The Commissioner also announced that the State Executive Council had approved the extension of the government’s urban regeneration programme to Upper Iweka, Onitsha, a major gateway into Anambra State.

According to him, the planned redevelopment is expected to transform the area’s aesthetics, functionality and land use, including its parks and other public spaces.

Mefor said the initiative was designed to align Upper Iweka with the Soludo administration’s vision of building a livable, prosperous and well-organised homeland.

He added that the detailed master plan and design for the Upper Iweka regeneration project would be unveiled soon.

Anambra Approves Third Batch of 1Youth 2Skills Programme

The Commissioner further disclosed that ANSEC had approved the commencement of the selection, placement and training of beneficiaries for the third batch of the One Youth, Two Skills (1Youth 2Skills) entrepreneurship programme.

He said the Ministry of Youth Development would announce the eligibility requirements and application procedures in due course.

Mefor recalled that the first two batches of the programme had been completed, with more than 13,000 Anambra youths trained, empowered and mentored across over 60 skill areas.

“Of this number, over 5,000 beneficiaries have become confirmed millionaires and are now training and empowering other youths as part of the programme’s pay-it-forward model,” he said.

He described the 1Youth 2Skills initiative as a flagship youth empowerment programme of the Soludo administration, aimed at creating a new generation of skilled, productive and self-reliant young people.

The programme is expected to further strengthen entrepreneurship, promote economic independence and expand opportunities for youth development across Anambra State.
