Anambra Police Arraign Six Over Alleged Defilement, Sexual Assault, Child Abuse

The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned six suspects before the Gender-Based Violence Court sitting in Awka over separate allegations involving defilement, sexual assault, child abuse, physical assault and alleged unlawful procurement of abortion involving minors.

The suspects were arraigned on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, following investigations into the respective cases, according to the Command.

Among those arraigned was Chinedu Chiekwu, of Umuoli Village, who is facing an allegation of defiling an 11-year-old child on September 6, 2026.

Another suspect, Sunday Anele, was arraigned over an allegation of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl, an incident the police said allegedly resulted in pregnancy.

Ugochukwu Okereke was also arraigned over an allegation that he lured a 13-year-old girl to a nearby bush, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Similarly, Ebuka Nwachukwu was arraigned over an allegation of luring a six-year-old child into his room at Okpoko and sexually abusing her.

The fifth suspect, Ogechi Ofoma, a woman from Awada, Obosi, was arraigned over an allegation of using a heated kitchen knife to inflict multiple injuries on her five-year-old daughter, identified as Oluebube Ofoma.

The sixth suspect, Obianuju Okafor, was arraigned over an allegation relating to the unlawful procurement of abortion for her 15-year-old daughter.

Police update on viral child-abuse video

The Command also provided an update on a widely circulated video allegedly showing a 36-year-old woman engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct involving her child.

According to the police, the matter has been investigated and the case file forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for necessary legal action.

The suspect remains in police custody pending further proceedings, the Command said.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons from sexual abuse, exploitation, violence and other forms of harm.

He also assured the public that the police would continue to ensure that victims and survivors are treated with dignity, sensitivity and appropriate protection throughout the investigative and legal process.
