EROSION: Anambra West Mayor Raises Alarm Over Damaged Access Road, Warn Road Users

The Executive Mayor of Anambra West Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Edith Nkeiru Ndive, has ordered immediate temporary safety measures on the damaged section of Ngene Okwuazu Road following flooding that affected the route.

Ndive, who inspected the extent of the damage, expressed concern over the potential danger the affected portion poses to motorists, pedestrians and other road users.

During the inspection, the mayor directed officials to place reflective ropes around the damaged section to clearly alert road users and reduce the risk of accidents.

The measure, according to the council, is intended as a temporary safety intervention pending further assessment and repairs.

Ndive said her administration would engage relevant authorities, as well as her counterpart, to explore ways of securing urgent attention for the affected portion of the road.

She stressed the importance of taking proactive measures to protect residents while efforts were being made to address the damage.

“The safety of our people remains a priority. We cannot afford to wait until an accident occurs before taking action.

“The reflective ropes are a temporary measure to alert motorists and pedestrians while we engage the relevant authorities on the way forward,” she said.

The mayor reiterated her administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property and responding promptly to infrastructure and other challenges affecting communities across Anambra West.

The council urged motorists, pedestrians and other road users to exercise caution when approaching the affected section of Ngene Okwuazu Road.
