A shocking child abuse case has sparked outrage in Anambra State after a 32-year-old mother was arrested over the alleged brutal abuse of her seven-year-old daughter, including claims that the child suffered injuries inflicted with a hot knife.
The little girl, identified as Oluebube Ofoma, was reportedly rescued on Sunday, September 13, 2026, after concerned residents and community security personnel intervened in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the incident was reported on Sunday evening after the child was allegedly found with severe bodily injuries.
The Victim
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said preliminary information indicated that the girl had been subjected to severe physical abuse.
Ikenga said the intervention of security personnel from Ibollo Community, Awada-Obosi, and concerned residents helped prevent further harm to the child.
“The child was rescued from further harm, while the mother was arrested and police action commenced immediately,” Ikenga said.
The police have since commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged abuse.
Ikenga assured the public that the investigation would be conducted “thoroughly, professionally and uncompromisingly,” emphasizing that the child’s safety, welfare and best interests remain paramount.
The motive behind the alleged abuse has not been disclosed, while investigations are ongoing.
The disturbing case has once again raised questions about child protection and the need for communities to speak up whenever children are suspected to be victims of violence or abuse.
