Hope has returned for 10-year-old Chiziterem, the boy whose brutal abuse by his guardian in Awada, Obosi, shocked Nigerians, as the Anambra State Government has announced his full recovery and discharge from hospital while unveiling plans to support his mother with a sustainable means of livelihood.
The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, disclosed on Saturday that the young boy has made a complete recovery from the injuries he sustained and has been discharged from the hospital after receiving comprehensive medical care.
Mrs Soludo described Chiziterem’s recovery as a testament to the resilience of the child and the collective compassion shown by members of the public who rallied around him during his treatment.
“Chiziterem has fully recovered and has been discharged from the hospital. We are grateful to everyone who stood with him through their prayers, visits, gifts and words of encouragement,” she said.
The First Lady also confirmed that the Anambra State Government fulfilled its earlier commitment by settling all medical expenses incurred during the boy’s treatment.
She expressed appreciation to the medical team and well-meaning individuals whose support contributed to the child’s successful recovery.
Beyond the boy’s rehabilitation, Mrs Soludo announced that the state government would extend assistance to Chiziterem’s mother by providing support to establish a sustainable source of livelihood.
According to her, the intervention is aimed at empowering the mother to adequately cater for her children and reduce the economic vulnerabilities that often expose children to abuse and exploitation.
“The government will also support Chiziterem’s mother to start a sustainable livelihood so she can provide for her children and secure their future,” she added.
The case of Chiziterem sparked widespread outrage after reports emerged that he was subjected to severe physical abuse while working as a house help in Awada, Obosi. The incident drew condemnation from child rights advocates and prompted swift intervention by the Anambra State Government, which ensured the boy received urgent medical attention and protection.
The latest development marks a significant milestone in the child’s journey from victimhood to recovery, while reaffirming the Soludo administration’s commitment to child protection, social welfare and justice for vulnerable members of society.
