The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has forcefully distanced itself from a man of God—and alleged lecturer—who dramatically fled through a window after students caught him in a compromising position with a female student on campus.
The viral video, which has ignited outrage across social media since Wednesday, shows a group of students forcing their way into a lecturer’s office, only for the suspect to make a cinematic escape—leaping out through the window and vanishing. The voiceover identifies the fugitive as a “notorious randy” lecturer, adding another layer of shock by suggesting he doubles as a clergy member at the institution.
But UNIZIK is drawing a clear line in the sand.
In a terse statement issued Thursday, the university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Aloysius Attah, declared that the footage is entirely unconnected to the institution—calling the reports “false and misleading.”
“After due verification, it has been established that the incident did not happen at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, ” Attah said. “The man in question seen in the viral video is also not a staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University. For the records, no staff or student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University is connected in any way to the said incident. “
The university, which prides itself on its ethical standards, made it clear that it would not be dragged into a scandal fabricated by irresponsible journalism.
“Nnamdi Azikiwe University upholds the highest standards of professional conduct and discipline among its staff and students, ” the statement stressed. “Staff members are guided by strong ethics, while the university management has zero tolerance for students’ exploitation under any guise. We will not be associated with false information that damages the reputation of our institution. “
Attah took a swipe at the digital mob mentality that propelled the story into the national spotlight without basic fact-checking.
“The advent of citizen journalism, social media, and the rush to break news first and gain traffic have fuelled misinformation, disinformation, and the spread of outright falsehoods, ” he said. “However, digital communication has also made it much easier to balance news reports and fact-check certain information before public dissemination. “
The university has now issued an ultimatum to media houses and online platforms: retract the defamatory reports immediately, or face consequences for spreading unverified allegations that tarnish the university’s hard-earned reputation.
As the dust settles, one question lingers—if the fleeing lecturer isn’t from UNIZIK, which institution is shielding this “man of God” turned fugitive?
