A cleric, Pastor Harrison Charles, founder of Day Spring Assembly in Awada, Onitsha, Anambra State, has been arrested by state authorities over allegations that he forcefully took up to 75 married women from their husbands.
The arrest was confirmed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dr. Ejimofor Opara, who disclosed the development in a statement shared on social media.
According to Opara, the pastor was picked up following a viral video in which multiple accusations were levelled against him by alleged victims, many of whom were said to be members of his congregation. The allegations include coercing married women into leaving their husbands and compelling couples within the church to swap spouses.
He further stated that the suspect has since been handed over to the police, with a joint investigation now underway between the Anambra State Police Command and the state government.
Opara added that concerned residents are encouraged to provide useful information that may assist ongoing inquiries.
In a related briefing, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi, confirmed that operatives of Agunechemba were involved in the arrest. He also urged members of the public with relevant information to contact the state government through 08034182108.
Authorities further disclosed that about eleven babies were discovered at the pastor’s residence during his arrest. Harrison allegedly claimed paternity of the children, stating they were borne by eleven of his wives, while also admitting he could not accurately account for the total number of wives or children associated with him.
Investigations are ongoing.
