More than 300 elderly persons in Nkwelle Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Saturday benefited from a philanthropic outreach by renowned Catholic priest and Spiritual Director of the Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, popularly known as Ebube Muonso.

The beneficiaries, most of whom are aged 70 years and above, received bags of rice and cash support as part of the cleric’s ongoing welfare programme for senior citizens in his community.

Speaking to journalists during the distribution exercise, Fr. Obimma said the initiative was inspired by his deep love, respect, and concern for the elderly, describing the outreach as a long-standing commitment that has become a regular feature of his ministry.

According to him, the programme, which has been running consistently for nearly four years, provides monthly financial support and periodic food assistance to elderly members of the community and other beneficiaries.

“I came here today to visit the aged and elderly people in my community. This has become a routine for me because I have great love and respect for old age,” he said.

“Many of them are beneficiaries of my monthly support scheme, including some priests. Beyond the financial assistance, we also provide food items from time to time to help ease their burdens.”

The popular cleric noted that over 300 elderly persons from Nkwelle Ezunaka alone benefited from the latest distribution, adding that the number of people impacted by his charitable activities across different communities runs into thousands.

“Today, each of them is going home with a bag of rice. When I see the joy and smiles on their faces, it gives me fulfilment. That happiness is what motivates me to continue,” he added.

Fr. Obimma assured the beneficiaries that the programme would continue for as long as he remains alive, stressing that caring for the vulnerable remains a core aspect of his mission.

The priest also used the opportunity to urge younger generations to cultivate the habit of honouring and caring for elderly people, emphasizing that respect for elders remains a cherished virtue with enduring rewards.

“If you want to live long, you must learn to respect and revere the elderly. If you desire to attain their age, be kind to them and seek their blessings,” he said.

“Even as a priest, I value their prayers. They pray for me every day, and I believe those prayers contribute immensely to God’s blessings upon my life and ministry. Truly, givers never lack.”

Beyond the outreach to the elderly, Fr. Obimma announced plans to embark on another major charitable intervention aimed at supporting patients struggling with hospital bills.

He revealed that his ministry has set aside N50 million to offset medical expenses for indigent patients in various hospitals.

“This week is dedicated to charity for the elderly. Next week, we shall be visiting hospitals to settle medical bills worth about N50 million. The funds have already been earmarked for that purpose,” he disclosed.

The cleric further stated that after the hospital outreach, he would retreat into a period of fasting and prayer, expressing confidence that divine intervention and testimonies would follow.

“After the hospital visits, I will proceed for a spiritual retreat to spend time alone with God in prayer and fasting. We expect miracles because we serve a miracle-working God,” he said.

The event concluded with special prayers offered by the elderly beneficiaries for the priest, while Fr. Obimma, in turn, prayed for their health, longevity, and continued well-being.
