Southern Governor’s, Traditional Rulers Forge Path for Regional Progress

A Joint Meeting of the Southern Governors’ Forum and the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council convened Thursday in Iperu, Ogun State, to tackle pressing issues affecting Southern Nigeria.

The dialogue, attended by governors of Southern states including Anambra’s Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, emphasized crucial topics including security, governance, and economic resilience, marking a significant step toward enhanced regional cooperation.

Key resolutions emerged from the summit, including the establishment of a Zonal Security Fund aimed at bolstering safety and security across regions.

Attendees agreed on the need for enhanced intelligence-sharing frameworks to promote effective collaboration among security agencies.

Additionally, there was a strong consensus on sustained advocacy for state police to empower local law enforcement authorities.

The meeting also addressed the importance of a harmonized resident identification programme to streamline identification processes for citizens.

Recognizing the challenges posed in governance, participants discussed strengthening regional security outfits and improving land and mining governance to encourage responsible resource management.

The Forum and the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council jointly passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This gesture reflects their recognition of his leadership and steadfast commitment to national stability and reform.

The discussions concluded on a hopeful note, with leaders committed to fostering collaboration for the betterment of Southern Nigeria and its citizens.
