A factional leadership of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Youth Wing has condemned the brutal assault and humiliation of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Jennifer Elobor, by Anambra State owned security operatives-Operation Udo Ga-Achi.

The call follows nationwide outrage over viral footage showing gun-wielding operatives of the outfit assaulting and stripping the female corps member naked.

The group, led by its President General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, in a statement on Wednesday, demanded the immediate disbandment of the Anambra State security outfit, also known as Agunechemba, whose operatives were implicated in the incident.

In the statement, Okwu described the actions of the outfit as a long-standing menace, noting that “before now, there have been several reports of how they violate the rights of people, and even engage in trial by ordeal.”

“They are said to have brutalised several innocent people in the state, and engaged in jungle justice for far too long,” the statement said.

“Many rights organisations, including Intersociety, have been crying out for the atrocities committed by these operatives, but nobody listened.

“The case of Ms Jennifer Elobor is one of the many such atrocities and it has put to public view the kind of thing going on in Anambra State.”

He urged Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to immediately disband the outfit, insisting that “they should go back to the drawing board by organising a fresh recruitment process, which should be followed up by a training.

“There should also be a compulsory drug test for anyone to be recruited to avoid a repeat of what Nigerians watched in this video.

“Having said this, we demand open trial of the perpetrators by the Nigerian police; there should be no sacred cows,” the statement said.

“The victim should also be paid adequate compensation by the Anambra State Government.”
