Why Obidient Movement is Solidly Backing Moghalu to be Anambra’s Next Governor- Anueyiagu

Chief Comrade Charles Obiora Anueyiagu, one of the Collegiate Leaders of Obidient Movement Stakeholders in Anambra State, says the declaration of Mr. Peter Obi during the flag off of the Governorship campaign of Labour Party candidate, Dr. George Moghalu in Onitsha, has provided his umbrella support group the impetus to deliver Moghalu.
Anueyiagu spoke exclusively to Obidient Movement Media Team on the sideline of the rally held at All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha on Friday, July 11, 2025. Below is excerpts of the brief chats.

What’s your take away from the speech delivered by the Labour Party candidate for Presidential election in 2023, Mr. Peter Obi at this rally?
To me, the key messages from His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi from this rally is that he is still a member of Labour Party, even though he is also involved in the newly formed coalition, African Democratic Congress (ADC). He also explained that his involvement in the coalition was for his 2027 Presidential election and that as far as the 2025 Anambra Governorship election is concerned, his heart and soul is with the Labour Party candidate, Chief George Moghalu. By that declaration, he has give us a mandate, that we must make sure we deliver George Moghalu on November 8, 2025. That we should go and mobilize the Obidient Movement Stakeholders to ensure that we deliver him.

Before this event, there had been so much speculations and counter speculations about where Obi’s stand was in respect of the Anambra Governorship. Are you happy that the cloud of doubt has been removed now?

Yes. I’m going home a happy man because Obi’s speech settled all the speculation and wrong information being sold to the people about the movement and the Governorship race in the state. Obi has given us direction today. As you know, Obidient is a political movement that is built around Peter Obi and everything he says becomes our mandate. By his proclamation at Onitsha, Obi has quashed the speculations around whether Obidient Movement members should back Dr. George Moghalu, the Labour Party candidate for the Anambra Governorship election or not. He was so empathetic that the coalition arrangement was for the 2027 Presidential election which he has already declared that he would contest, and that he and other elected political leaders under Labour Party are fully backing Moghalu. We also saw the National Coordinator of Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko who also re-echoed what Obi said. I was overjoyed seeing our national coordinator drumming support for Moghalu.
As far as I’m concerned Obi’s declaration at Onitsha this Friday was a vindication of our position which was to mobilize Obidient Movement Stakeholders across the state to vote for Moghalu.

Obidient Movement members in Anambra attended the Labour Party Governorship Candidate’s campaign kick off in large numbers, what does this implied and what do we expect from the movement going forward?

What you saw from the Obidient Movement at Onitsha rally kick off was like warm up. We are just getting ready to kick-start our campaign and sensitization tour of the state in other to galvanize voters for George Moghalu who we strongly believe will be the next governor of Anambra State after November 8, 2025 election. And this is significant because it’s a project that will usher us into the main event, which is the 2027 general election where his Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi is expected to also win the presidential election.

“Let’s heed the clarion call of our leader, Mr. Peter Obi who has made it clear that the coalition project is for presidential election and that Moghalu remains his candidate.

To us, the task ahead is critical, because we believe in that popular adage, ‘Charity Begins At Home’. Before Obi’s victory in 2027, we must first of all, get George Moghalu elected as Anambra Governor. We, the Obidient Movement Stakeholders have verified him and Confirmed that he is truly OBIDIENT in all ramifications. He possesses similar characteristics as our principal, Mr Peter Obi and that’s why we are solidly behind him.

There are some members of Obidient Movement who are in other parties, what message are you sending to them right now?
My message to Obidient Movement Stakeholders in Anambra, especially those in other parties, is simple. Let’s heed the clarion call of our leader, Mr. Peter Obi who has made it clear that the coalition project is for presidential election and that Moghalu remains his candidate. He also explained his reason for backing Moghalu and it’s important that anyone who genuinely call him or herself an Obidient should obey their master. So, my message to them right now is that they should return and join us so that we can channel our resources and energies towards working as a cohesive to deliver Moghalu as next Anambra Governor on November 8, 2025.

We are eagerly waiting for those of them that are on the fringes to team up with us now. We will welcome them with open arms.I believe the true test of how Obidient you are comes with this. And I sincerely pray that they understand this and do the right thing by following their leader, Mr. Peter Obi who has taken great pains to explain to us his position and plans for Anambra Governorship and his presidential election.
I will sum it up with this popular saying: “Follow who knows road!” I believe that Peter Obi, knows exactly what is best for Ndị Anambra right now and that’s why he had decided to back George Moghalu and Lady Ifeoma Carol Okaro.

As his followers, we have no other options than to trust his judgment and respectfully and joyfully follow him. So, on Obi’s command we stand. George Moghalu, all the way. So, I expect real Obidients to come out and join us to mobilize Anambra voters for Moghalu. That’s my message.
