Chukwudi Onyejekwe has emerged as the candidate of the African Democratic Congress for the Anambra East and West Federal House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Onyejekwe, an indigene of Aguleri, secured a decisive victory during the party’s primary election conducted across wards in the constituency, defeating his closest rival, Kenechukwu Offor of Mmiata Anam.

Results announced at the end of the exercise showed that Onyejekwe polled 7,828 votes, while Offor scored 624 votes.

The primary election witnessed participation from party members across communities in Olumbanasa, Anam, Umueri, Aguleri, Nzam, Otuocha and Nsugbe, with party officials describing the turnout as impressive.

Declaring the results, the representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mr. Kingsley Ajunwa of the Department of Election Party Monitoring, confirmed Onyejekwe as the ADC flag bearer for the 2027 House of Representatives election in Anambra East and West Federal Constituency.

Speaking shortly after his emergence, Onyejekwe described the outcome as a mandate for development and grassroots representation.

“It is a resounding victory and a confirmation of my campaign slogan, ‘Handshake of Progress Across Anambra East and West.’ I thank the people for believing in our vision and standing firmly with us,” he said.

He stated that the victory reflected the electorate’s preference for issue-based leadership over money politics.

“This victory is for improved agriculture, clean water, accessible roads, youth empowerment and socio-economic development across our constituency,” Onyejekwe added.

The ADC candidate assured supporters that the momentum generated during the primaries would be sustained ahead of the 2027 general election.

“The ticket is sealed, our mandate is legitimate and our vision is clear. We are taking this momentum into the general election in line with the national movement for a better Nigeria,” he said.

Onyejekwe also pledged to intensify grassroots mobilization and campaign efforts to secure victory at the polls.

According to him, the primary election demonstrated transparency and internal democracy within the party structure aligned with the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee.

He further noted that the turnout recorded during the exercise showed growing political engagement among constituents seeking change in representation.

Meanwhile, INEC officials disclosed that 7,668 party members were registered for the primary election, while 4,323 voters were accredited, representing a turnout of 92.6 per cent.
