Anambra Police Rescue Missing 10-Year-Old Boy Found Wandering in Okpoko

The Anambra State Police Command has rescued a 10-year-old boy found wandering in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area, after reportedly losing his way home while playing.

The boy, identified as Chinecherem Onuwasoanya, is said to be from Ebenebe community in Anambra State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, November 1, 2026, explaining that operatives attached to the Okpoko Police Division rescued the child following the intervention of a concerned resident.

According to Ikenga, the boy had gone out to play but subsequently became unable to find his way home or locate his family members.

He said a Good Samaritan who discovered the child wandering around promptly took him to the Okpoko Police Division for assistance.

“Preliminary interaction with the child revealed that he had left home to play but subsequently became unable to find his way back or locate his family members,” Ikenga stated.

He added that the child identified himself as a native of Ebenebe, prompting the police to commence efforts to establish contact with his parents or guardians and facilitate his safe return home.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the Good Samaritan for demonstrating concern and responsibility by bringing the child to the police station.

The Commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and support efforts to protect children and other vulnerable members of society.

He advised parents and guardians to ensure adequate supervision of their children and take necessary precautions to make them easily identifiable and traceable in cases of separation.

The Command has appealed to anyone with useful information that could help identify or locate the boy’s parents or guardians to contact the Okpoko Police Division or the Anambra State Police Command.

The police assured that efforts were ongoing to reunite the rescued child with his family.
