The Elite Youths of Anam Foundation (EYAF) has held a strategic meeting with the Mayor of Anambra West Local Government Area, Dr. Tony Obierike, to explore initiatives aimed at improving educational infrastructure, teacher welfare and learning opportunities across the council area.
The meeting, held at the local government secretariat in Nzam on Monday, October 19, 2026, featured proposals for three smart schools, an Anam Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre, teacher development programmes and improved accommodation for teachers and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.
The EYAF delegation led by its President, Dr. Christopher Ejike Anekwe, presented the foundation’s blueprint for educational development and human capital investment in Anambra West.
Anekwe said the engagement provided an opportunity to identify practical interventions to strengthen teaching standards, expand access to modern learning facilities and improve students’ academic performance.
He explained that the proposed smart schools aligned with the education modernisation agenda of the Anambra State Government under Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
The foundation also proposed an Anam CBT Centre to reduce the difficulties students encounter travelling to distant locations for computer-based examinations.
Other areas of discussion included Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, academic competitions, sports and teacher capacity development.
Responding, Obierike commended EYAF for its commitment to educational advancement and expressed his readiness to partner with the foundation.
The mayor disclosed that establishing three smart schools in Anambra West before the end of his tenure was part of his vision for the area. He also emphasised the need to equip schools with functional libraries, computer laboratories and other essential learning facilities.
He urged EYAF to develop innovative programmes to promote extracurricular activities, particularly sports, and address transportation challenges faced by teachers living outside the local government area.
Obierike added that the council was willing to sponsor extracurricular programmes, including marathon events, subject to available budgetary provisions.

EYAF Secretary, JohnPaul Udoba, said the meeting also addressed teachers’ quarters, accommodation for corps members, security and transportation.
As an immediate follow-up, Emmanuel Okeke was assigned to compile an inventory of teachers’ quarters and corps members’ lodges across Anambra West, with a submission deadline of October 22, 2026. The exercise is expected to identify existing facilities, assess their condition and highlight accommodation gaps requiring attention.
Chairman of the EYAF Anniversary Planning Committee, Pastor Frank Agulu, said the foundation would develop detailed proposals addressing priority educational needs, including transportation and accommodation support for teachers and health workers.
He noted that the proposed partnership would require clear implementation plans, effective coordination and measurable targets to translate the discussions into tangible improvements.
The engagement marks a step towards collaboration between EYAF and the Anambra West Local Government leadership on educational development and improved service delivery.
