The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, has ordered an investigation into the alleged disappearance of an armed robbery suspect reportedly arrested and taken to the 3-3 Police Station in Onitsha.

The Commissioner also directed the immediate issuance of queries to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the station and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), while disciplinary proceedings have been ordered against an Inspector of Police in connection with the incident.

The directives followed the circulation of a viral video alleging that the suspect, who was reportedly arrested and brought to the station, could no longer be accounted for.

CP Nnanna gave the orders on Monday, October 5, 2026, after personally interviewing the complainant and police officers involved in the matter.

Describing the allegation as serious, the Commissioner said any conduct capable of undermining public confidence in the police would not be tolerated under his watch.

He stressed that the Command would not condone “unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or compromise of established procedures” by any officer.

The Commissioner consequently directed the Command’s X-Squad to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent whereabouts.

The investigation will also examine the roles and responsibilities of all officers involved in the arrest and handling of the suspect.

CP Nnanna further disclosed that necessary operational measures had been put in place to facilitate the arrest of the suspect, assuring members of the public that the Command would communicate the outcome of the investigation once the facts have been established.

“Accountability remains a core component of the Command’s leadership philosophy, and no police officer is above scrutiny or the established disciplinary process,” the Commissioner stated.

He, however, cautioned members of the public against circulating unverified information capable of prejudicing the ongoing investigation.

According to him, the facts surrounding the incident must be established through due process, even as the Command works to unravel what happened to the suspect.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professional policing, accountability and public confidence, stressing that officers found culpable after the investigation would be subjected to the appropriate disciplinary process.

The statement was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in Awka, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
