The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has warned its personnel against abuse of power, high-handedness and other forms of misconduct, stressing that erring officers will face disciplinary action.

The State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde, gave the warning on Monday while addressing officers and men of the command during the muster parade at the State Headquarters in Awka.

Maku said his administration would not tolerate any conduct capable of violating citizens’ rights, undermining public confidence or bringing the Corps into disrepute.

He directed personnel to strictly operate within the Corps’ Standard Operating Procedures and in accordance with extant laws, noting that officers must exercise their powers responsibly and professionally.

“No officer is permitted to act in a manner that erodes public trust or tarnishes the image of the Corps. Any personnel found culpable of indiscipline, misuse of authority or infringement on the fundamental rights of members of the public will face disciplinary action in accordance with laid-down regulations,” he warned.

The commandant also charged Heads of Departments and Units, Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to strengthen command and control within their respective jurisdictions and ensure proper supervision of personnel under their authority.

He stressed that the powers vested in NSCDC personnel must be exercised with professionalism, civility and respect for human rights, adding that the conduct of individual officers reflects on the entire Corps.

Maku urged personnel to remain disciplined, accountable and people-oriented, saying the Corps must continue to justify the confidence reposed in it by the public through responsible and exemplary service delivery.
