Ember Months: FRSC Takes Road Safety Campaign to Anambra Markets, Motor Parks

AWKA — The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has intensified its road safety campaign across markets, motor parks and other public spaces as part of efforts to prevent road traffic crashes during the 2026 Ember Months.

The campaign, which covered Eke and Amawbia markets as well as motor parks, targeted commercial drivers, transport operators, traders, passengers and other road users.

Speaking during the advocacy visits, the Anambra Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, urged residents and road users to support efforts by the FRSC to promote safer roads across the state and the country.

Asekhauno cautioned motorists against speeding, dangerous overtaking, route violations, distracted driving and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

She also urged motorists to maintain lane discipline, avoid distractions and prioritise the safety of passengers, pedestrians and other road users.

At Eke and Amawbia markets, the FRSC team sensitised market executives and traders on responsible road use, particularly the need to use designated pedestrian crossings, avoid roadside trading and refrain from indiscriminate parking.

The officials also advised traders and pedestrians to exercise extra caution when operating around busy roads and traffic corridors.

At the motor parks, drivers and transport operators were reminded of the importance of ensuring that their vehicles were roadworthy before embarking on journeys.

The FRSC emphasised regular inspection of critical components, including brakes, tyres, lights and windscreen wipers, to identify defects that could contribute to crashes.

As part of the campaign, Asekhauno also featured on a live, audience-participation radio programme where she explained the statutory responsibilities of the FRSC, including road traffic management, enforcement of traffic laws, public enlightenment, rescue operations and crash reduction.

The Sector Commander said sustained engagement with road users and other stakeholders remained central to the Command’s efforts to reduce crashes and fatalities.

“Anambra State Sector Command remains committed to continuous stakeholder engagement, public enlightenment and proactive interventions in line with the Federal Road Safety Corps’ mandate and its 2026 Corporate Strategic Goal of reducing road traffic fatalities and injuries,” she said.

The FRSC urged all road users to exercise caution throughout the Ember Months, obey traffic regulations and avoid behaviours that could endanger lives on the roads.
