Body of Missing UNIZIK Primary School Pupil, Success Ezenwafor, Recovered from Floodwaters

The body of Success Ezenwafor, a pupil of UNIZIK Primary School who was swept away by floodwaters in Awka on Tuesday, has been recovered, bringing a heartbreaking end to the search for the young boy.

The recovery was confirmed by the Mayor of Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Chinedu Okafor, who also provided an update on the condition of other children involved in the incident.

“The body of the missing child, Success Ezenwafor, has been recovered. The other children are in stable condition and receiving medical treatment at the hospital. I am at Amaku Teaching Hospital at the moment,” Okafor said.

The tragic incident has left the Ezenwafor family devastated, with relatives struggling to come to terms with the loss of their child.

A family member who spoke about the incident described the family’s anguish, recounting Success’s final moments with his father before he left for school on Tuesday.

According to the family member, Success kissed his father on both cheeks, said goodbye, and boarded the school shuttle bus. Tragically, he never returned home.

Two other children from the family who were involved in the incident were rescued and are currently receiving medical attention.

The family member described Success as a brave boy, revealing that the young pupil reportedly broke one of the vehicle’s windows, creating an escape route that enabled other children to get out.

Sadly, despite his courageous actions, Success was unable to reach safety.

The incident has renewed concerns about the dangers posed by flooding, particularly to schoolchildren and residents during heavy rainfall.
