Anambra CP Orders Manhunt for Killers of ‘Azia Nwosu’

The Anambra State Police Command has launched an intensified manhunt for the assailants behind Sunday night’s deadly shootings in Awka that claimed the life of popular media personality and comedian, Isaac Nwosu, widely known as “Azia Nwosu”, and another unidentified person.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed relevant operational and investigative units of the command to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killings.

The directive followed a two-hour closed-door strategic meeting held by the Commissioner with the command’s strategic and operational officers on Monday, as security authorities reassessed information and intelligence received from members of the public, particularly residents of Awka, the Anambra State capital.

The meeting came amid growing concern over the killings of Nwosu and another person, whose identity has yet to be confirmed.

Nwosu was reportedly shot dead by yet-to-be-identified assailants along S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, Awka, while the second victim was killed in a separate incident along Capital City Road, Amaenyi, Awka, on Sunday.

The motive behind the attacks has yet to be established, but the incidents have created tension in parts of Awka, with security operatives stepping up surveillance and other security operations.

CP Visits Azia Nwosu’s Family

As part of the police command’s response to the incident and efforts to assess the security situation, CP Ama also paid a condolence visit to the family of the late media personality.

During the visit, the Commissioner described Nwosu as an important asset whose contributions to his family, the state and the police command would be greatly missed.

Speaking after the strategic meeting and condolence visit, CP Ama said the command was strengthening its operations to ensure that those behind the attacks were identified and brought to justice.

“The meeting is aimed at strengthening security operations and sustaining the fight against violent crime, and to intensify efforts towards identifying and apprehending the perpetrators,” the CP said.

He confirmed that the command had visited the family of the slain entertainer following what he described as a recent security incident in Awka.

“We also paid a condolence visit to the family of late Isaac Nwosu, who lost his life in a recent security incident in Awka,” he said.

The Commissioner paid tribute to the late Nwosu, popularly known as Azia, noting his contributions to security advocacy and other activities involving the police command.

“The late Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Azia, was an asset to the State. He will be greatly missed not only by the family, but also by the State and the Anambra State Police Command, especially for his service during the Command’s security advocacy as well as other sundry activities.”

CP Ama said relevant operational and investigative units had been given clear instructions to intensify the search for the perpetrators.

“To this end, the relevant operational and investigative units have been directed to intensify efforts towards identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.”

He also reassured the bereaved family and residents of Anambra State that the police command was committed to pursuing the investigation with determination.

“We reassured the family and residents of Anambra State that the Command would pursue the matter with determination, while urging Ndi Anambra to keep believing in the integrity of the Force and the ongoing investigative proceedings over the unfortunate incident.”

As investigations continue, residents and members of the public are expected to provide useful information that could assist security agencies in tracking down those responsible for the killings.

The deaths of Azia Nwosu and the second victim have renewed concerns about violent crime and security in Awka, as residents await answers regarding the motive behind the attacks and the identity of those who carried them out.
