Anambra Police Raid Suspected Criminal Hideout, Recover ₦1.45m Worth of Drugs, Fake $100 Note, Vandalised Wires

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested five suspected members of a criminal gang and recovered illicit drugs valued at ₦1.45 million, a suspected counterfeit US$100 note, vandalised electrical wires and ₦72,550 in cash during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area.

The operation, conducted on August 20, 2026, was carried out by operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, who stormed the suspected hideout at about 12:48 p.m.

Five male suspects were arrested during the operation. They were identified as Omogo Obinna, 29; Okechukwu Nwagba, 28; Echezona Okonkwo, 29; Awal Umar, 23; and Ogadinma Boniface, 33.

According to the Police, the items recovered from the suspects included substantial quantities of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa (Indian Hemp), Canadian Loud, Black Mamba, Colorado and Loud, as well as vandalised electrical wires, ₦72,550 in cash and a suspected counterfeit US$100 bill.

Preliminary investigations, the Command said, indicate that the suspects may be members of a criminal network operating within the area. Police said the suspects have made useful statements during interrogation and allegedly mentioned the names of other persons believed to be connected to the group.

Incriminating items allegedly recovered from the Suspects

Commenting on the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, commended the Rapid Response Squad for the successful raid.

The Commissioner directed the operatives to conduct a thorough and professional investigation while intensifying efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of the alleged gang.

He further ordered that anyone found to have participated in the alleged criminal activities be brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling drug-related offences, vandalism and other forms of criminality across the state.

The Command also urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to the Police, stressing that community cooperation remains critical to preventing and combating crime in Anambra State.

The suspects remain allegations at this stage, and their guilt can only be established by a court of law.
