Police Launch Manhunt as Suspects Flee, Abandon Motorcycle, Two Pistols and Cult-Branded Caps

The Anambra State Police Command has intensified efforts to track down two suspected criminals who reportedly escaped into a nearby bush after abandoning their motorcycle, two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with the Vikings Confraternity.

The incident occurred along the Isuaniocha Bridge in Awka North Local Government Area of the state on Thursday, August 13, 2026, when operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) were conducting a routine patrol.

According to a statement issued on Friday, August 14, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were riding a black Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number when their suspicious movement attracted the attention of the patrol team.

The operatives reportedly gave chase after the riders suddenly turned and attempted to evade them.

The pursuit ended when the two suspects allegedly fell from the motorcycle and abandoned the vehicle, two slippers and a bag before fleeing into the nearby bush.

What police officers discovered inside the abandoned bag subsequently raised further concern.

A search reportedly uncovered two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription linked to the Vikings Confraternity, prompting the command to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend the fleeing men.

The police said the suspects were being tracked to establish their identities, affiliations and the circumstances surrounding their possession of the recovered firearms and other items.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed operatives to intensify efforts to apprehend the suspects.

The command also reaffirmed its commitment to sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations and proactive policing across the state.

Police authorities said the measures were aimed at disrupting criminal activities and ensuring the safety and security of residents.

“The Command remains committed to sustaining proactive policing strategies aimed at preventing and disrupting criminal activities across the state,” the statement said.

The police urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing efforts to apprehend the suspects.
