A 16-year-old boy identified as Chukwuka, a native of Enugu State, has reportedly sustained severe facial injuries after his maternal aunt allegedly attacked him with a broken plate in Aba, Abia State.

Chukwuka had reportedly been living with his aunt for about one year and eight months, during which he allegedly assisted with her business and carried out various household responsibilities.

According to the teenager’s account to the police, his responsibilities included caring for his aunt’s child, cooking, washing dishes and serving customers at her mama-put restaurant.

The alleged attack reportedly occurred after Chukwuka forgot to wash one of the plates.

The teenager was subsequently taken to the hospital for medical attention. His aunt was reportedly at the Osisioma Police Division, Aba, when Chukwuka was brought to the hospital.

The matter has been reported to the police, and Chukwuka’s statement has reportedly been documented as authorities look into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The teenager is currently receiving treatment for the injuries he allegedly sustained.

The incident has sparked concerns over the treatment of children living under the care of relatives and the dangers of using violence as a form of discipline.

A simple mistake such as failing to wash a plate should never put a child at risk of serious injury.

“Every child deserves to be protected from violence and treated with dignity, regardless of the circumstances.”

As Chukwuka continues his recovery, there are calls for the relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the allegation, ensure that the teenager receives adequate medical care and protection, and take appropriate action if wrongdoing is established.

We wish Chukwuka a speedy recovery and hope that justice is served through due process.
