Nwajagu Takes Helm of Anambra Safety Engineers, Vows Stronger Partnerships to Advance Public Safety

The Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISE), a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), has inaugurated Engr. Bethram Nwajagu as the fourth Chairman of its Anambra State Chapter.

The investiture ceremony, held in Awka, marked the official handover of leadership as the immediate past Chairman, Engr. Finbarr Ajegwu, administered the oath of office to Nwajagu before members, stakeholders, and invited guests.

Delivering his inaugural address, Nwajagu pledged to build on the achievements of previous administrations while repositioning the institution to play a more strategic role in promoting safety engineering and best practices across Anambra State.

“We are committed to sustaining the gains of our predecessors while introducing innovative ideas, stronger partnerships, and effective leadership that will further elevate safety standards across the state,” he said.

The new chairman identified the establishment of a State Safety Commission, enhanced collaboration with relevant government ministries, departments and agencies, and the development of young safety professionals as key priorities of his administration.

“We will work towards the establishment of a Safety Commission, strengthen synergy with key government parastatals, and continue to champion the ‘Safety First’ culture, which remains the bedrock of engineering excellence,” Nwajagu stated.

Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of NISE, Engr. Monday Abadum, represented by the National Vice Chairman, Engr. Francis Itafo, urged members to rally behind the new leadership to consolidate the institution’s progress.

According to him, “The success of this administration depends on the collective commitment of every member. Let us continue to support the new executive with dedication and unwavering resolve as we pursue our shared vision of making safety a national priority.”

The ceremony also featured the presentation of awards to deserving members and technical paper presentations on the theme, “Advancing Public Safety: Collaborative Governance Between Engineers and Regulators.”

The papers were delivered by Dr. David Onuoha and Bartholomew Nweke, who emphasized stronger collaboration between engineering professionals and regulatory institutions as a critical pathway to improving public safety and sustainable development.
