The immediate past Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Chief Tonycollins Nwabunwanne, has called on members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra West to remain steadfast and united behind Governor Chukwuma Soludo, insisting that loyalty to the ruling party is critical to sustaining development across the local government.

Speaking during an APGA stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday at Ajandu Hall, Umueze Anam, Nwabunwanne said Governor Soludo’s administration has demonstrated an unprecedented commitment to grassroots development, particularly in Anambra North Senatorial Zone.

The meeting drew traditional rulers, party executives, women and youth leaders, community stakeholders, and grassroots mobilisers as APGA intensified consultations ahead of the August local government elections and the 2027 general elections.

Addressing the gathering, Nwabunwanne clarified the distinct responsibilities of federal lawmakers and the state government, stressing that while members of the National Assembly could facilitate and lobby for federal projects, the delivery of critical infrastructure and essential public services remained primarily the responsibility of the state government.

“Nobody should be misled. National Assembly members can attract federal interventions, but it is the state government that builds our roads, equips health centres, provides rural electrification and delivers the services that directly improve the lives of our people,” he said.

He praised Governor Soludo for giving Anambra West renewed attention after years of what he described as neglect by previous administrations.

“For the first time in many years, we have a governor who has deliberately prioritised Anambra West. If we truly desire more roads, better healthcare, improved infrastructure and greater government presence, then we must stand firmly behind APGA from the forthcoming chairmanship election through the 2027 elections.”

The former commissioner warned against split voting, saying political unity would strengthen Anambra West’s voice and bargaining power in attracting more developmental projects.

“When our votes are divided, our influence is diminished. A united front gives us greater leverage and positions Anambra West for even more government attention,” he added.

Nwabunwanne further urged party stakeholders to take the campaign to every community by engaging families, friends, youths and undecided voters across the wards.

Responding on behalf of participants, stakeholders pledged to intensify grassroots mobilisation for APGA, describing the engagement as timely and strategic as preparations gather momentum for the August council election and the 2027 general elections.
