Abducted Anambra Doctor Regains Freedom 3 Days after

Chief Medical Director of Crown Hospital, Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Dr. Edwin Emegakor has been released by his abductors.

Emegakor abducted on the evening of May 7 by unidentified gunmen alleged to be in security uniforms after attending to patients was freed unharmed from his captors through efforts of security operatives.

Confirming the development, Secretary of the Nigeria Medical Association, Dr. Ifeanyi Obiaeli, said the doctor is hale, hearty and in good spirits, adding that he had since reunited with his family.

According to Obiaeli, the association received news of the rescue while addressing journalists during a briefing at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital.

The Nigeria Medical Association had earlier issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the government, demanding the immediate rescue of Dr. Emegakor or risk industrial action by medical practitioners in the state.
