Nigeria Army Reiterates Commitment to Making Anambra Secure, Livable

The Nigerian Military has praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s continued support to the army and other security agencies operating in the State.

It expressed continuous collaboration with the government towards actualizing the governor’s vision of making Anambra a secure, livable and prosperous state.

The Commander, 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support) Military Cantonment Onitsha, Col. Butrus Yakubu stated this weekend during the 2025 combined West African Social Activities (WASA) celebration, held at the Cantonment.

He noted that the governor’s continued support since assumption of office has transformed to what he called “professional relationship”, among security operatives in the state.

He said, “Today’s celebration marks a special moment in our Calendar. It is a day set aside momentarily step away from the rigours of training, operations and administrative routines and to come together in celebration, unity and thanksgiving.

“It’s a day when discipline meets culture, when uniforms give way to tradition and when the bonds of comradeship are renewed.

“The West African Social Activities WASA, is more than a social event. It is a cherished Nigerian Army tradition that reminds us that beyond being soldier, we are also fathers, mothers, sons, daughters and proud custodians of our rich cultural heritage.

Today, we celebrate the diverse west African identity that unites us, our languages, music, dances, cuisines and customs, all of which reflect the enduring strength of unity in diversity.

Appreciating families of officers and soldiers for their patience, resilience and constant prayers, which he described as backbone of the soldiers’ morale, Yakubu noted that their sacrifices, especially on home front contribute largely to their successes,” he stated.

He also thanked the host community for their hospitality, cooperation and peaceful coexistence with their, reiterating their committed to mutual respect, partnership and collaboration towards ensuring peace and stability within the State.

“As we celebrate today, let us also remember our colleagues currently deployed on operations, engaged in training or on special assignments across the country.

“We salute their courage and dedication and we pray for their safe return. We equally remember our fallen heroes whose sacrifices remain forever etched in our hearts,” he added.

The event which featured award presentation to 12 most discipline and obedient officers of the year 2025 WASA celebration was graced by GOC, 82 Division Enugu, Major General Oluremi Fadairo represented by Brig Gen Olajide Daniel Bello and the Commander, 14 Field Engr Regiment, Onitsha Cantonment, Lt Col. Eric Suswam.

Others were Special Adviser to the governor on security, AVM Ben Chiobi, Naval Commander, Onitsha Outpost, Kabiru Yusuf, Police, DSS, FRSC and Civil Defence representatives, High Chief Ikechukwu Okonkwo among others.
