NPFL Sanctions Katsina United FC over Ugly Crowd Incident Against Barau FC

Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL management has sanctioned Katsina United FC with various purnishment following ugly crowd incident during their week 12 league match against Barau FC of Kano.

According to the statement from the NPFL, Katsina Utd breached the rules and framework of the league during the match played at Mallam Shehu Diko Stadium in Katsina.

The league body accused Katsina United of failing to provide adequate and effective security resulting in unauthorised persons gaining access to restricted areas.

“Katsina Utd also failed to ensure proper conduct of their supporters leading to the harassment of Barau FC players and match officials.

“Supporters of Katsina Utd also threw harmful objects unto the pitch resulting in the injuries of Barau FC players; conduct capable of bringing the game to disrepute”

Accordingly the club will now play all their subsequent home matches in Jos, Plateau State behind close doors.

“The club has been fined 1 million Naira each for throwing objects towards the pitch, failing to ensure proper conduct of their supporters and bringing the game into disrepute.

The club will also pay 2 million Naira for not providing adequate and effective security”.

They have been asked to pay additional 2 million Naira each as compensation for the treatment of injuries and damages to Barau FC, for holding match officials and Barau FC players hostage for hours after the match has ended.

The club has been given 48 hrs to appeal the decision of NPFL organizers.
