Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested five suspected members of a notorious armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate at Awka.
The arrestin effected during swift operation on 27th August 2025, follows a report that an unnamed citizen was abducted on his farmland at Isiagu, AWKA North LGA of the state and later released after payment of ransom.
According to an official statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu, stormed the hideout of the suspects at Notoko area of Awka, where they arrested five persons suspected to be members of the gang. The suspects arrested during the raid includes, Michael Nwobodo โMโ 30 yrs, Eze Friday โMโ 29 yrs, Uche Okolo โM’ 23 yrs, Chinedu Gilbert ‘Mโ 29 yrs and Dominic Oraz โMโ 38 yrs.

“Exhibits recovered from the suspects include 6 (six) automatic pump-action guns, 63 (sixty-three) rounds of live cartridges, one microscope, 5 (five) machetes, one military cap, 2 (two) police teargas canisters, Handcuffs, A robberโs rocket launcher, criminal charms, 3 (three) Motorola walkie-talkies, One jack knife, One power bank and Cash sum of โฆ26,000.00 (Twenty-Six Thousand Naira) only”. Ikenga further disclosed that during interrogation, one of the suspects, Dominic Oraz, confessed to having deserted the Nigerian Army in November 2024.
“Meanwhile, necessary enquiries have commenced with the authority to guide Police action and prosecution of other suspects”, the PPRO said, adding that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, urged residents of the state to remain law-abiding and vigilant and to continue to report suspicious activities to the Police for prompt action.
