Anambra Govt Seals Private Maternity at Nnewi over Illegal Operation, Unhygienic Practices

Anambra State Government has sealed Madonna Mercy Maternity and Clinic, Uruagwu Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of the state over 7years illegal operations.

Acting Director of Medical Services, Ministry of Health, Dr. Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu who disclosed this to newsmen said the facility was also sealed for operating with unqualified medical personnel in an unhygienic environment.

“The maternity was sealed after a detailed inspection carried out by Anambra State Health Facility Accreditation and Monitoring Unit, during which several serious violations were observed, including inability of the maternity to renew its operational license since 2018,” he said.

Chukwulobelu cited unhygienic environment, which is unsuitable for delivering any form of maternal care, as the reason why the government had to seal the facility in order to save lives.

“The measure is part of broader efforts to sanitize the health sector and ensure that health facilities meet the minimum standards in the state.

Explaining that the enforcement fully aligned with the health reforms vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Chukwulobelu noted that Ndi Anambra deserve only a safe professional and people-centred health system under the leadership of Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike.

According to Chukwulobelu, the government is intensifying monitoring efforts across the state, even as he assured that any facility found working below standard will be closed down.
