Police in Anambra State have foiled kidnap attempts in two separate locations in the state.

Spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga who disclosed this on Sunday said the incidents occured in Isuaniocha and Nkwelle in Awka North and Oyi Local Government Areas of the state, respectively.

He said the victims’ vehicles, a Toyota Corolla and Shuttle bus, respectively were recovered by the operatives from the suspects who abandoned the vehicles and fled.

He said, “Police Operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad Enugu-Ukwu in the evening of 17th May 2025 foiled a kidnapping attempt and recovered the victim’s vehicle at Isuaniocha.

“The kidnapping gang of five operating in a black coloured Toyota Corolla double-crossed the victim at Amatu village, Agulu and abducted him with his black Lexus 350 SUV before the Police were alerted.

“The operatives in technology-driven manhunt on the criminals made them to abandon the victim and the vehicle on the road at Isuaniocha and fled. The victim has been debriefed and in safe custody.

“Similarly, Police Operatives attached to the Obosi Divisional Headquarters on 17th May 2025 recovered a stolen shuttle bus with Reg No: AGU 651 ZL belonging to the Transport Company of Anambra State popularly known as (TRACAS) at Nkwelle, Oyi Local Government Area.

“The Operatives swung into action following a distress call to the Anambra State Police Command Control Room by the driver on how the five-man armed criminal gang disguised themselves as passengers and dispossessed him of a cash sum of #20,000 and the shuttle bus.

“Consequently, the Operatives acted swiftly and alerted the necessary security checkpoints to deny the criminals access to escape which forced the hoodlums to abandon the vehicle at Slaughter Junction, in Nkwelle and fled through a nearby bush.

“To this end, the Operatives are currently working on the necessary information available to dislodge the kidnapping gang.

“Security patrols have also been intensified in the areas to enhance safety and nip to the bud any untoward situation and for possible arrest of the fleeing suspects.”
