UNIZIK Education Foundations Honours Distinguished Personalities

The awardees include Sir Paul Chukwuma (Onwa Umueri), HRM Barr. Emeka Onuorah (Igwe Chinyereze II) of Oraukwu Kingdom, Chief Gwacham Elochukwu (Ezeudo), High Chief Ambrose Egwuonwu (Ochubaradikeofia), Chief Alfred Anozie (Ugogbuzue), Hon. ThankGod Ibeh (Ezebunafor I), Hon. Felix Odimegwu, (Commissioner for Environment, Anambra State), Prof. Joseph Ifeanyichukwu Ikechebelu (Unizik’s Acting Vice-Chancellor), Prof. Lilian-Rita Ifeoma Akudolu, Prof. Cordelia Chinwe Anadi, and Prof. Ngozi Nwabugo Agu.

The Department of Educational Foundations, Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, recently honoured several distinguished personalities for their contributions to the department and society.

During the hybrid international conference themed “Transforming Education, Redesigning Teacher Education for Skill Alignment and Employability, Through Community-Driven Strategies” keynote speaker Prof. Chinyere Nwajiuba highlighted the challenges facing teacher education in Nigeria.

She recommended updating teaching methods and curricula to focus on practical skills that match industry needs, equipping students with skills that make them job-ready, and training teachers to deliver relevant, skills-based education.

The University’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, represented by Prof. Vivian Nwogbo, described the conference theme as quite relevant to the 21st-century digital age. He commended the conference organizers, led by Dr. Ugochukwu Ifeyinwa Offor, Head of the Department of Educational Foundations.

In a welcome address, Dr. Offor thanked attendees and appealed for support to acquire an ultra-modern classroom and a vehicle for the department. The local organizing committee chairman, Rev. Fr. Dr. Aloysius Ezeanolue, had in a vote of thanks, commended the guests and awardees for showing massive support to the department, urging them not to rest on their oars.

The event featured a maiden musical performance by the Educational Foundations Dance Troupe and the presentation of special portraits to HRM Igwe Barr. Onuorah and Prof. Ikechebelu, climaxing the occasion.
