The Anambra State Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court, sitting at the Chief Magistrate’s Court, Awka has ordered one Chinyere Ifesinachi, a defendant standing trial to compensate one Miss Idimmachukwu with the sum of N500,000.

The case relating to violence is contrary to the Violence Against Persons, Prohibition and Protection, Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria, 2017.

The defendant, Ifesinachi, 25, had physically abused Idimmachukwu, her domestic servant, in Onitsha, the commercial city of the State.

The Presiding judge, Genevieve Osakwe directed that before the money could be accessed, the victim’s parents should open bank account in her own name, with her mother and the Assistant Chief Registrar (ACR) of the Court, as co-signatories to the account.

She categorically insisted that the account would serve for the girl child’s education, warning that every expenditure made in respect of the account must be accounted for, to avoid unnecessary spending, especially, on the parts of the parents.

The case was further adjourned to August 2, 2023, for report of compliance to the order of Court.

Nigerians in diaspora have been donating money for the victim’s welfare, including scholarship since Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo took custody of her from popular comedian, Lord Zeus before handing her over to her family.
