The Anambra State Town Union Council Youth Wing (ASTUC Youth) has honoured 16 distinguished community role models from Orumba North Local Government Area in recognition of their outstanding contributions to youth development, community service and grassroots growth.
The ceremony, held on November 5, 2026, at the Orumba North Local Government Headquarters, Ajali, also marked a homecoming for the ASTUC Youth President, Comrade Ken Okoli, as women, youths and other community stakeholders gathered to welcome him.
Speaking at the event, Okoli, an indigene of Nanka, disclosed that Orumba North was the 19th local government area visited by the youth wing under its Community Role Model Project.
He explained that the initiative empowers youths in each community to identify and celebrate individuals whose character, achievements and contributions serve as positive examples for younger generations.
According to him, the project is anchored on the importance of shared values in building a better society and draws inspiration from Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s governance philosophy, particularly its value-system pillar.
Okoli further revealed that ASTUC Youth was working on a bill to institutionalise the value system, expressing optimism that the initiative could become a model for youth development and value-driven leadership in other states.
He urged young people to embrace integrity, service and responsibility, stressing the need to emulate individuals whose lives reflect positive values and commitment to community development.
APGA Chairman pledges support for youth development
The Chairman of the occasion and APGA Chairman in Orumba North LGA, Hon. Celestine Uzodike, pledged continued support for youth development and the administration of Governor Soludo.
Uzodike encouraged young people to sustain the governor’s developmental strides and take active responsibility for protecting lives and property in rural communities.
Earlier, the Youth Mayor of Orumba North LGA, Mr Alfred Ikechukwu, said the programme brought together representatives from all 16 communities in the council area.
The communities are Ndikelionwu, Nanka, Awgbu, Amaokpala, Ndiowu, Omogho, Amaetiti, Okpeze, Ndiukwuenu, Awa, Ajali, Ndiokolo, Ndiokpalaeke, Ufuma, Ndiokpalaeze and Oko.
Ikechukwu described the celebration as an opportunity to recognise individuals who had made remarkable sacrifices towards community development and youth empowerment.
He commended Okoli’s leadership for its commitment to youth advancement and urged the award recipients to remain steadfast in their contributions to society.
Awardees commend community service, urge youths to embrace positive values
In his remarks, the youth leader representing Ndiukwuenu, Comrade Nwankwo Stanley, described the recognition of Chief Nwafor as well deserved.
Stanley highlighted the chief’s contributions to community development, including the provision of electricity to three villages before the advent of solar energy, as well as his consistent support for young people.
Similarly, one of the award recipients, High Chief Chinedu Akwuaka of Awgbu, attributed his recognition to his commitment to human capital development and community service.
Akwuaka urged youths to emulate individuals with positive values, shun thuggery and other social vices, and embrace sincerity, truth and the fear of God.
He also called on young people to uphold peaceful conduct and responsible citizenship as the 2027 general elections approach.
The ASTUC Youth Community Role Model Project is expected to continue promoting positive values, celebrating community builders and encouraging young people to contribute meaningfully to the development of Anambra State.
