The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing Worldwide has disowned a group identified as Ohanaeze Youth Forum and distanced itself from an individual, Agwu-awa Malachy, over a publication alleging partisanship against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) National Commissioner for Anambra, Ebonyi and Imo states, Dr Ken Nnamdi Ukaegbu.
The Global Youth Leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, made the clarification in a statement issued on Thursday, describing the publication as misleading and capable of inciting members of the public.
The youth leader urged Nigerians to disregard the allegations, insisting that the publication did not represent the position of the organisation.
According to him, the statement was necessary to prevent misinformation, particularly given the security sensitivity of the South-East region and the need to sustain public confidence in the electoral process.
“The attention of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing Worldwide has been drawn to the mischievous publication, credited to a nonexistent and faceless Ohanaeze Youth Forum and Agwu-awa Malachy, alleging partisanship against the INEC National Commissioner in charge of Anambra, Ebonyi and Imo states, Dr Ken Nnamdi Ukaegbu,” the statement read.
Okpalaezeukwu said the organisation would ordinarily not respond to what it described as a baseless publication but considered it necessary to clarify the matter in the interest of the public.
He added that the alleged impersonation could mislead unsuspecting Nigerians and create unnecessary tension in the region.
“The aim is to cause a security breach and discourage our people from undertaking their civic responsibilities. We hereby urge the general public to disregard this fallacy,” he stated.
The youth leader reaffirmed that Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, under its President-General, Distinguished Senator Azuta Mbata, remained a non-partisan socio-cultural organisation committed to the security, welfare and protection of Igbo people, as well as the promotion of Igbo culture and values.
He maintained that the organisation’s youth wing was led by him in his capacity as Global Youth Leader and rejected any attempt to misrepresent the group through unauthorised platforms or publications.
“There is nothing like Ohanaeze Youth Forum. We therefore frown at attempts to misinform and mislead Nigerians by impersonating the apex Igbo youth body,” he said.
Okpalaezeukwu warned those allegedly involved to desist from activities capable of misrepresenting the organisation, threatening that the group would pursue appropriate legal remedies against anyone found culpable.
“We shall leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those behind this attempt shall not go untouched in line with the provisions of the law,” he added.
The statement also called on security agencies, particularly the Department of State Services (DSS), to investigate the matter and take appropriate steps to prevent any potential threat to public peace and national security.
Okpalaezeukwu further urged Igbo youths across Nigeria to remain peaceful and vigilant against what he described as attempts by mischief-makers to create confusion and falsely represent the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation.
On the 2027 general elections, he called on INEC and security agencies, including the police, to remain committed to their statutory responsibilities and ensure a credible, transparent, free and fair electoral process.
He stressed that maintaining public confidence in the electoral process was essential to peaceful participation in the forthcoming elections.
