The re-elected Mayor of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka (Ochendo Idemili), has pledged to deepen grassroots development across all sectors while strengthening the political fortunes of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the area.
Nkwoka made the commitment during a reception held in his honour at the Idemili North LGA Secretariat, Ogidi, shortly after his inauguration on October 3, 2026.
Addressing supporters and political stakeholders at the event, Nkwoka said his administration would work with his deputy, Chief D.A. Anagor, to promote unity, development and effective governance in the local government.
“This is the Deputy Mayor of Idemili North, Chief D.A. Anagor. The two of us will be here to unite Idemili North. Anagor is a new face in the executive position of this LGA. Together, we shall win elections and work to win in other areas, including environmental sanitation, the health sector and security.”
Nkwoka said his administration would now shift its focus from campaigning to governance, stressing that the new administration would commence work immediately.
“At this point, we are no longer campaigning for support. I am not here to tell Idemili North what I will do. From tomorrow, October 5, I will start work,” he said.
He also described APGA’s reported performance in the local government election as a significant political milestone for the party.
“We wanted to break that paradox and we achieved it. For the first time in the history of Anambra State, APGA won an election here with over 25,000 votes.”
According to Nkwoka, Idemili North recorded one of the highest vote totals for APGA outside Aguata and Awka South, the local government areas associated with Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim, respectively.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, he called on APGA supporters to prepare for the Federal Constituency election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
“Let’s prepare for January 16, 2027. We shall endeavour to massively vote for Hon. Ikenna Iyiegbu Onyechimereze, the APGA candidate for the Idemili North and Idemili South Federal Constituency, so long as Onyechimereze is ready to play his part,” Nkwoka said.
In his response, Hon. Ikenna Iyiegbu assured APGA supporters and residents of Idemili that he was prepared for the Federal House of Representatives election and urged them to support the party.
Speaking at the reception, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Dr. Law Mefor, described Anambra as an APGA stronghold, attributing the party’s performance in the local government and councillorship elections to its political structure in the state.
Mefor also expressed confidence that APGA would retain its political influence across the state in the 2027 elections, including contests for the State House of Assembly, Federal House of Representatives and Senate.
He further urged Ndi Anambra to support President Bola Tinubu, whom he described as the APGA presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The event also attracted traditional rulers and political stakeholders, including the Secretary-General of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council (ASTUC), Igwe Surv. Charles Agbala of Uke, and Igwe Godwin Odiegwu of Abacha.
They urged Nkwoka to continue implementing the “Dubai-Taiwan” development mantra of the Soludo administration at the grassroots.
The Chairman of New Auto Spare Parts Market, Nkpor, Chief Stephen Ofoleh (Award), and the President of Obosi Urban Landlords Association, Chief Emeka Asimone (Dikedioramma), also commended Nkwoka for what they described as achievements recorded during his first tenure.
“The reward for good work is more work. Nkwoka was re-elected because he did well. There is peace in the markets, improved security, environmental sanitation and better waste management under his watch,” they said.
They urged the mayor to ensure that revenue generated by the local government and its markets was channelled into further development.
“Let him not relax because he is still young and could be recommended for further political positions after his tenure as mayor,” they added.
The reception was attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, market stakeholders and residents of Idemili North who gathered to welcome the re-elected council chairman and his administration.
