The Anambra State Government and security agencies have intensified efforts to prevent further violence in Aguleri and Umuoba Anam, following outbreak of crisis on October 1, that have taken tragic turn and resulted in property damage.
The latest intervention came on Friday, October 2, 2026, when the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, led Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, government officials, security personnel and community stakeholders on an assessment visit to the affected areas.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the delegation inspected the security situation, assessed the damage and confirmed that a victim sustained fatal injuries during the crisis.
The visit was aimed at assessing the immediate security situation and identifying measures to prevent further attacks while creating conditions for the restoration of normal life in the affected communities.
During the visit, CP Nnanna appealed to residents of both communities to remain calm and avoid actions that could worsen the situation.
“Residents are urged to remain calm and provide credible information that can assist security agencies in their operations and ongoing peace efforts,” the police said.
The police also called on members of the public to cooperate with security personnel as efforts continue to stabilise the affected areas.

On his own, Deputy Governor Ibezim appealed to traditional rulers, town unions, youth organisations and other community leaders to work with the government and security agencies to resolve the dispute.
He stressed that cooperation among stakeholders would be critical to preventing renewed violence and addressing the issues underlying the crisis.
Security agencies have also commenced additional measures aimed at preventing further breaches of peace in the affected areas.
Authorities said efforts would continue to address the dispute through dialogue and other lawful channels while maintaining security to protect residents and property.
Residents have consequently been urged to remain peaceful, law-abiding and vigilant as security operations and peace-building efforts continue. #
