Police Arrest 57 Suspects, Rescue 3 Kidnap Victims, Recover 18 Guns in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on violent crime, arresting 57 suspects, rescuing three alleged kidnap victims and recovering 18 assorted firearms and 43 rounds of ammunition in the past month.

The Command also disclosed the destruction of a criminal hideout as part of sustained operations targeting kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence, murder and other serious crimes across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, disclosed the operational achievements during a presentation of the Command’s one-month scorecard to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 13, Ukpo, AIG Miller Gajere Dantawye, who paid an operational visit to the Command.

According to the Commissioner, the gains were recorded through sustained intelligence-led and proactive policing, coupled with coordinated tactical operations by the Command’s various formations.

“These results were made through coordinated intelligence gathering, targeted tactical operations, strategic deployment and sustained pressure on identified criminal networks by the Command’s tactical units, Area Commands and Divisional formations, working in conjunction with sister security agencies and relevant stakeholders,” CP Oji Ama said.

He assured residents that the Command would sustain its offensive against criminal elements, with operational priorities focused on intelligence development, precision deployment, aggressive patrols, rapid response and the disruption of criminal hideouts.

The Commissioner directed operational commanders and personnel to remain proactive and vigilant, while continuously reviewing and adapting their strategies in response to emerging crime patterns and actionable intelligence.

He reaffirmed the Command’s determination to deny criminals freedom of action and make Anambra increasingly hostile to kidnapping, armed robbery, cult violence and other forms of organised criminality.

Speaking during the visit, AIG Dantawye commended the Command for the results recorded, describing the operational gains as encouraging.

He charged officers and men to build on the achievements through discipline, professionalism, courage, effective supervision and strict adherence to the rule of law.

The AIG placed particular emphasis on intelligence gathering and utilisation, urging personnel to strengthen community engagement and ensure that actionable intelligence is swiftly translated into effective operational interventions.

He further directed commanders to intensify operations against kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, drug-related offences and other violent crimes, while stressing that all operations must be conducted professionally, lawfully and with due regard for human rights.

The police leadership also underscored the importance of public confidence in the fight against crime, with CP Oji Ama urging personnel to maintain respectful and responsive relationships with members of the public.

He noted that credible intelligence and community cooperation remain critical to effective modern policing.

The operational visit provided an opportunity for the Zone 13 Police leadership to review the Command’s security posture, assess ongoing operations and identify areas requiring further strengthening.

The latest operational scorecard, according to the Command, reinforces its commitment to intelligence-driven policing, coordinated security operations and sustained pressure on criminal networks across Anambra State.
