Popular Awka MC and Comedian Aiza Nwosu Reportedly Shot Dead as Tributes Pour In

The Awka entertainment community has been thrown into mourning following reports that popular master of ceremonies, comedian and griot, Aiza Nwosu, was shot dead on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Unconfirmed reports circulating online have alleged that the incident may be connected to a lingering land-related dispute. Among those who paid tribute online was media practitioner and writer, Dr. Uche Nworah, who described Aiza as an entertainer with a personality that was impossible to ignore.

Reflecting on his distinctive character and approach to entertainment, Nworah wrote: “Aiza was never afraid to be unconventional or theatrical.”

“Many will remember Aiza for his avant-garde dress sense and his colourful, staged roadshows for clients, often conducted with his vehicle fitted with loudspeakers,” Nworah said.

He recalled that Nwosu once appeared wearing false eyelashes and, on another occasion, dragged a dead python through the streets of Awka as part of a comic stunt, joking that it was the same snake allegedly connected to the infamous story of money reportedly swallowed at a JAMB office.

Nwosu had been active in the entertainment industry for many years and was known to friends and colleagues as someone who also supported and mentored younger entertainers.

His reported death has renewed concerns about violent killings and insecurity in Awka, with residents and members of the entertainment community expected to seek answers regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, social media platforms have continued to fill with messages of shock, grief and tributes as those who knew him remember his contributions to entertainment and the unique personality he brought to public life.
