NDLEA, Nigerian Army Deepen Alliance for War Against Drug Trafficking, Insecurity in Anambra

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Anambra State Command, has reiterated its commitment to sustaining a strong operational partnership with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to combat illicit drug trafficking, substance abuse, and related crimes across the state.

The assurance was given by the State Commander, CN Onubogu Charles Orakwue, while receiving the newly posted Commanding Officer of the 14 Field Engineer Regiment, Onitsha, Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Awudu Enyia, during a familiarisation visit to the NDLEA State Headquarters in Awka.

Welcoming the Army commander and his delegation, Orakwue congratulated Lt. Col. Enyia on his appointment and stressed that effective inter-agency collaboration remains critical to addressing the evolving security challenges confronting the state.

“Effective collaboration among security agencies is indispensable in the fight against illicit drug trafficking, substance abuse, and other forms of criminality,” the NDLEA commander said.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening intelligence sharing, joint operations, and other coordinated efforts aimed at making Anambra safer and free from the menace of illicit drugs.

“We remain committed to sustaining intelligence sharing and collaborative operations with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to ensure a safer, more secure, and drug-free Anambra State,” Orakwue added.

Speaking earlier, the Commanding Officer of the 14 Field Engineer Regiment, Lt. Col. Joseph Awudu Enyia, underscored the importance of sustained synergy among security agencies in tackling emerging security threats.

According to him, the familiarisation tour was intended to consolidate existing partnerships while creating an opportunity to discuss issues of mutual concern that would enhance peace, public safety, and security across the state.

“No security agency can effectively confront today’s security challenges in isolation. Strong partnerships remain the foundation for achieving lasting peace and safeguarding our communities,” Enyia said.

The Army officer, who assumed command of the 14 Field Engineer Regiment on July 13, 2026, was accompanied by senior officers of the regiment during the visit.

The engagement formed part of efforts to strengthen institutional cooperation between the Nigerian Army and the NDLEA, while introducing the new Commanding Officer to key security stakeholders in Anambra State.
