Candidate for the Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha (DNA) Federal Constituency, Chief Barr. Prince Chukwudi Oli under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has rescued Master Sochima, a child living with sickle cell disorder.

The rescue came through payment of his medical bills at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka.

The intervention followed emotional appeal by the Director of the Sickle Cell Orphanage and Underprivileged Home, Agulu, Mrs. Aisha Edwards Maduagwu.

Maduagwu disclosed that the young boy was battling severe respiratory complications, persistent cough and breathing difficulties, regretting that repeated appeals for assistance had yielded little or no response.

For several years, Oli popularly known as Oba Ezeafia Anaocha has quietly carried the burden of caring for children living with sickle cell disorder in the State. He has become a father figure to them through his scholarship programme, paying their school fees and giving them hope for a brighter future despite their health challenges.

Rather than making empty promises, the House of Reps hopeful has consistently invested his personal resources to ensure that vulnerable children are not denied education because of poverty or illness.

His latest intervention is a demonstration that his commitment does not end with their education but extends to protecting their lives whenever medical emergencies arise.

When informed of Sochima’s worsening condition, Oba Ezeafia wasted no time in stepping in to offset the child’s medical expenses, enabling doctors to continue life-saving treatment.

According to Maduagwu, Sochima urgently required oxygen and nebuliser support, respiratory medications, antibiotics, laboratory investigations and other critical medical care.

Exhausted by the enormous financial burden of caring for several vulnerable children, she had appealed to government institutions, individuals and previous donors for help.

Oba Ezeafia’s timely intervention not only eased the financial burden but also restored hope to a family and caregivers who had refused to give up on the young boy.

The latest act of kindness is another testament to Oba Ezeafia’s enduring culture of compassion and selfless service.

Beyond his aspiration to represent the people of the DNA Federal Constituency, he has continued to touch lives through educational sponsorships, healthcare support, youth empowerment and numerous interventions for the less privileged.

His philanthropy has consistently reflected his belief that leadership is best demonstrated through sacrifice, empathy and practical service to humanity, especially for those who have no one else to depend on.

As Master Sochima continues to receive treatment and prayers for full recovery, many residents and stakeholders have praised Oba Ezeafia for translating compassion into action.

According to them, the philanthropist has once again demonstrated that his humanitarian service goes far beyond politics.

Describing his intervention as a shining example of responsible leadership, the stakeholders called on other well-meaning individuals, corporate organisations and government agencies to emulate his commitment by supporting children living with sickle cell disorder and other vulnerable members of society.

Oba Ezeafia’s unwavering dedication continues to prove that the greatest legacy of leadership is the number of lives touched, restored and given renewed hope.
