CWO Awka Flags Off 2026 August Meeting with Call to Practice ‘Pure Love in Action’

The Catholic Women Organization, CWO, Awka Diocese, led by Lady Ngozi Dorathy Muo, has flagged off its 2026 August Meeting with a call on members to practice ‘Pure Love in Action’.

The ceremony took place on Saturday at Cana House, CWO Building, Awka, Anambra State.

Muo said the August Meeting provides a unique opportunity for spiritual enrichment, mentorship, mutual support, and collective reflection on the challenges facing families, the church, and society.

“Truly, today marks the beginning of yet another remarkable season in the life of our Organization, CWO. A season to reflect, renew fellowship, and serve accordingly,” she said.

She described CWO as a formidable pillar in the Church that nurtures families, supports the clergy, promotes Christian values, and extends compassion to the less privileged.

Muo noted that since the establishment of Awka Diocese in 1977, CWO members have distinguished themselves through unwavering faith, dedication, and selfless service.

Speaking on the theme, she said: “Active Christian love is not merely expressed in words, but demonstrated in concrete acts of human kindness, sacrifices, forgiveness, and service delivery. The love we celebrate today is Agape – unconditional love exemplified by Our Lord Jesus Christ.”

She added that in a world confronted with moral decline, economic hardship, and family instability, the role of Catholic women has become more demanding. “Mothers remain the first teachers of the faith, custodians of family values, builders of peace and harmony, as well as agents of positive change,” she stated.

Muo also appreciated the Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor, for his support, and prayed that the 2026 August Meeting would deepen members’ commitment to the organization’s motto: “Apostolate in Unity, Justice and Love”.

In a homily delivered on behalf of the Bishop by the Diocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Charles Ndubuisi, on the topic “The Bridegroom is Here”, women were urged to create “family time” and monitor their children.

The Chief Chaplain of CWO Awka Diocese, Rev. Fr. Evaristus Okafor, and the Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, represented by Anaocha LGA Mayor, Hon. Romanus Ibekwe, also stressed the importance of good upbringing and parental supervision.

Also speaking, Senator representing Anambra Central, Chief Victor Umeh, and Member representing Awka North and South in the House of Representatives, Hon. Lilian Orogbu, charged mothers to draw children closer to God and to show agape love to one another.

Dignitaries present included Mrs. Esther Chinyere Onyekesi of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Ego Uzoezie, and other leaders.

The ceremony also featured the unveiling of the Statue of the Virgin Mary.
