NSCDC Delta Commandant Visits Train Crash Site, Assures Safety of Property, Lives

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Delta State Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and critical national assets following the recent train derailment at Owa-Oyibu in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

The State Commandant, Chinedu Igbo, gave the assurance during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the accident scene, where he led a team of senior officers to evaluate the situation and monitor ongoing recovery efforts.

According to the Commandant, the visit was aimed at assessing the extent of the incident, reviewing the circumstances surrounding the derailment, ensuring adequate security coverage at the site, and supporting efforts to restore normalcy.

During the inspection, the NSCDC team engaged with railway officials, engineers, personnel of sister security agencies, and other stakeholders involved in the response and investigation of the incident.

The delegation also visited injured victims receiving treatment at Central Hospital, Agbor, including five NSCDC personnel who were part of the train escort team and sustained injuries in the crash.

Preliminary reports from the scene indicated that several train coaches and sections of the railway track suffered significant damage as a result of the derailment. Railway engineers and technical experts were observed conducting assessments to determine both the immediate and underlying causes of the accident.

Commandant Igbo commiserated with the injured officers and other affected victims, assuring residents, commuters, and the general public that the NSCDC, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains committed to protecting lives and property while supporting ongoing recovery operations.

The assessment visit was attended by the Divisional Officer of the NSCDC Ika North-East Division, CSC Meye Kingsley, alongside officers of the division.

NSCDC officers in Ika North-East have remained actively engaged at the scene since the incident occurred, providing security and support to emergency response efforts.
