The Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, has appointed Dr. Ifeanyi Fidelis Okafor as its new Chief Medical Director (CMD), following a formal selection process concluded on Tuesday, May 26. His appointment is for a single five-year tenure in line with institutional regulations.
Dr. Okafor, a general surgeon with over 14 years of clinical experience across primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare systems, is expected to oversee and strengthen medical services within the polytechnic community.
An alumnus of the University of Benin, Dr. Okafor is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) and a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He also holds a Masterโs degree in Human Anatomy from Ahmadu Bello University and is certified in Advanced Trauma Life Support by the American College of Surgeons.
Prior to his appointment, he served in several clinical and administrative roles at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, where he was involved in surgical services delivery, clinical governance, patient safety, and healthcare quality improvement.
The institution stated that his selection followed due process, including an advertised vacancy and a merit-based interview conducted by the Governing Council led by Senator Engr. Dr. Barnabas Gemade.
Management expressed confidence that his appointment will enhance healthcare delivery within the polytechnic, particularly in areas of hospital administration, multidisciplinary coordination, and strategic health planning.
