Tansian University, Umunya is becoming a theatre confusion following conflicting circulars announcing the sack of the Pro Chancellors and Registrar/Secretary of Governing Council respectively.

The University through a letter signed by Rev. Daniel I. Igwilo on April 8 announced the termination of the appointment of Prof. Ellis Idemobi as its Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council over allegations of graft.

The University said Idemobi was unilaterally appointed by one man with whom he tried to alter some vital institutional records.

But a separate circular has emerged from the University affirming that Idemobi remained the substantive and valid Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.

The letter which was made public on Thursday was signed by Rev. Dr. Innocent-Anthony Uke,
Registrar/Secretary to Council.

It said Igwilo was not the Registrar of the University and therefore packed the legal authority to issue, authorise, or communicate any decision relating to the appointment or termination of the Pro-Chancellor of Tansian University.

The University said the the allegations contained in the letter which included claims of misconduct and impropriety, were baseless, unsubstantiated and damaging.

The letter directed Igwilo to desist from refrain from issuing or circulating any statements that purport to affect the status or office of the Pro-Chancellor.

โ€œConsequently, your purported notice is null, void, and of no legal effect whatsoever.

โ€œFor the avoidance of doubt, the Governing Council hereby affirms that Prof. Ellis Idemobi remains the duly recognised and authentic Pro-Chancellor of Tansian University.

โ€œAny communication or action suggesting otherwise is misleading and unauthorised,โ€ it said.

In a similar development, the University has sacked Igwilo, the Registrar/Secretary of Governing Council effective April 10.

The termination letter was signed by Idemobi in his capacity as Pro Chancellor Chairman Governing Council on the directives of the Board of Trustees of the University LTD/GTE.

โ€œThis decision was made after careful consideration that your services are no longer needed in the University.

โ€œYou are to receive your final salary payment of one month in lieu of notice at the end of May 2026.

โ€œEnsure that all Tansian University properties including keys, laptops, identification cards, official vehicles and others in your possession are returned to the Vice Chancellor within 24 hours,โ€ it said.
