Detained native doctor, Ezenagwu Ikechukwu John Paul, has issued groveling apology to the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and entire state for his conducting his spiritual activities in breach of the state homeland security law.

Following his arrest and parade by security operatives, Mr. Ezenagwu, popularly known as ‘Mmuo Mmili Afuluanya’, publicly apologized for his actions. He claimed that he was ignorant of the law and pleaded with Governor Soludo and the people of Anambra State for forgiveness, promising not to engage in such acts again.

“I’m here to plead to our able Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo and all the Anambrarians, that I’m very sorry, because I didn’t know how the law works. But now that I have realized and known, I promised that I will never practice or make such mistake again of going to the river to do any sacrifice. They should please pardon me”

He vowed never to deceive young people in the state again .

After investigations, he is expected to be handed over to the police for further processing and potential prosecution if found culpable .

Anambra state government, through its security outfit Agunechemba, has accused Mr. Ezenagwu of several illegal practices. Chief aming them is luring young men and women to bathe in a stream behind his house in Nnewi, promising them quick wealth.

This practice is considered a violation of the state’s Homeland Security Law.

He was also accused of performing illegal rituals and supplying counterfeit currency to internet fraudsters ( “Yahoo Boys”).

During the raid on his residence, “Ezenagwu led operatives to a stream behind his house where he claimed he could summon a water goddess in the form of an alligator. When compelled to perform the invocation to prove his powers, he failed to summon the goddess, leading to his arrest, detention which AnambraDaily gathered is preparatory to his prosecution in line with the Soludo administrationโ€™s ongoing crackdown on fraudulent native doctors believed to be aiding criminal activities in the society.

Recall that in 2025, Governor Soludo signed the Anambra Homeland Security Law, which criminalizes the preparation of charms for criminals, including those used for “money rituals” (Oke-ite) or to supposedly make users bulletproof (Odeshi). The law prescribes prison terms of between six and 20 years for offenders. The government has clarified that this action targets fraudulent practitioners who promote “get-rich-quick” rituals, not legitimate traditional medicine or religious practices.
