FRSC Decries Death of 11 in one Month, Moves to End Black Spot Crashes in Anambra

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra state Command has vowed to ensure end to avoidable crashes at black spots across the state.

Sector Commander, Bridget Asekauno gave the assurance while leading joint road audit to a black spot along Agulu lake in Anaocha local government area of the state where four female burial returnees lost their lives Friday night.

She said the tour was necessitated by four consecutive crashes at the same spot, resulting to lose of eleven lives within one month.

According to her, the tour which was in line with the Corps strategic goal of reducing road traffic crashes and engaging stakeholders in road safety activities, Asekhauno expressed worry over frequent occurrence of RTC at the same spot.

The Sector Commander condemned reckless attitude of some drivers which led to avoidable road traffic crashes despite the defects in the structural design of the road.

She commiserated with the families of the victims and the community, pointing out places that require road infrastructure and possible barricades as temporary measures to the menace pending permanent solution.

Member representing Anaocha Constituency in the State House of Assembly Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi condemned frequent occurrences of crashes and commiserated with her people.

She promised to laise with the State Government on possible redesign on the road and the lake.

On his part, Director, Anambra Road Traffic Management Authority, Engr Okonkwo Emeka-Konti ordered immediate installation of the recommended road furniture and work to commence immediately.

Representative of Commissioner for Works and Chief Civil Engineer, Ministry of Works, Stanley Enike promised to start work immediately to implement all decisions reached to barricade the road and put rubble strips pending permanent solution to expand the bridge.

The community leaders appreciated the Sector Commander for her efforts in ensuring safety along their communities and the Corps quick response during emergencies.
